Granny Square Booties

 


Note* This pattern uses a picot stitch in the edging on Round 4, directions for the picot are at the bottom of the pattern.

Materials:
Size E hook
Baby yarn at least a couple of ounces of main color, small amount for contrasting color.
Yarn needle
Markers
*Sizing: Using baby yarn or DK yarn, this pattern fits 6-9 month old babies. For smaller booties, use a size D hook and fine baby yarn or fingerling yarn.

Using main color:

Round 1
Chain 14, skip the first two chains from the hook, this counts as the 1st half double crochet, Work 4 more half double crochet in the same space; half double crochet in the next 10 stitches, 5 half double crochets in the next chain, 10 half double crochets in the remaining loops of the previoius 10 double crochets, slip stitch in the top of the skipped two chains.

Round 2
Chain 1, 2 single crochet in the same space, 2 single crochet in next stitch, 1 single crochet in next stitch, 2 single crochet in next 2 stitches; single crochet in next 10 stitches, 2 single crochet in next 2 stitches, 1 single crochet in next stitch, 2 single crochet in next 2 stitches; 1 single crochet in next 10 stitches, slip stitch in top of beginning single crochet to close round.

Round 3
Chain 1, 1 single crochet in same space, 2 single crochet in next stitch; *1 single crochet in next stitch, 2 single crochet in next stitch*; Repeat from * to * across the next 4 stitches (15 stitches after increases) Single crochet in next 10 stitches. Repeat from * to * 8 more times (15 stitches after increases) ; single crochet in next 10 stitches, DO NOT CLOSE ROUND!

Round 4
Working in the back loops only of Round 3, single crochet in each stitch, slip stitch in first stitch to close round.

Round 5
Ch 1 single crochet in same space as closing, single crochet in next stitch and every stitch there after, slip stitch in beginning single crochet to close round.
Rounds 6-10 Repeat Round 5.

At the end of last round, tie off and weave in ending yarn tail.

Counting from closing, Mark the 21st and 42nd stitches.
Granny Square Top

Beginning chain:
Chain 4, slip stitch in first chain to form a ring.

Round 1
Chain 3, counts as 1st double crochet, double crochet into ring, chain 2, 2 doulbe crochet into right, Repeat from * to * 2 more times; slip stitch into beginning chain 3 to close round.

Round 2
Slip stitch into next double crochet and 2 chain space, chain 3, Work double crochet chain 2, 2 double crochet in 2 chain space, chain 2, Work 2 double crochet, chain 2, *2 double crochet in next 2 chain space, chain 2*, Repeat from * to * 2 more times. Slip stitch into beginning chain 3, tie off and weave in yarn tail.


Joining Granny Square to Bottom of the Bootie:

Round 1 Part A
Taking the Granny square top, put your hook through the back loop of any double crochet that comes after a chain 2 corner space.
